Overview

In this role you will own and evolve a modern, cloud-native data platform in a UK insurance setting. You will lead infrastructure, automation, and platform capabilities, collaborating with Data Engineering and Platform teams to enable scalable data delivery. The role emphasizes self-service tooling, strong engineering best practices, and pragmatic decisions. You’ll shape platform standards, security governance, and observability to support data initiatives across the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Design, build and maintain GCP infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code
  • Own and evolve Terraform modules, deployment standards and platform patterns
  • Build and enhance CI/CD pipelines to support data platform delivery
  • Support and optimise core GCP services across the data estate
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, logging and observability capabilities
  • Define and maintain secure IAM, access control and governance practices
  • Develop reusable tools and automation to improve developer experience
  • Support integration and migration activities between Azure and GCP where required
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, standards and runbooks
  • Partner with Data Engineers and Platform teams to ensure alignment with engineering standards
Key requirements
  • Strong hands-on experience operating and engineering platforms within GCP
  • Excellent Terraform and Infrastructure as Code expertise
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines from the ground up
  • Strong DevOps and platform engineering background
  • Experience supporting production cloud environments
  • Knowledge of networking, security and cloud infrastructure best practices
  • Experience implementing monitoring, logging and alerting solutions
  • Ability to work autonomously, make informed decisions and take ownership of technical delivery
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
