Information Systems Specialist Digital Web Developer

In this role you will develop and enhance Drupal-based websites and digital services to provide accessible, secure, and user-centred experiences. You’ll work within a multidisciplinary Digital Services team to improve customer journeys and service delivery, contributing to the council’s digital transformation. You will build reusable components, integrate with internal and external systems, and ensure high quality through testing and accessibility improvements. This is a hands-on, collaborative role with a clear impact on residents’ online council interactions.

• Develop, maintain and enhance Drupal websites and digital services
• Write clean, secure, maintainable code following development standards
• Create reusable components, templates and functionality for consistent digital services
• Build and maintain integrations with internal and external systems via APIs
• Troubleshoot defects and performance issues across websites and apps
• Contribute to testing and quality assurance activities
• Support accessibility, usability, performance and security improvements
• Collaborate with content designers, UX researchers and service teams to understand user needs
• Participate in technical discussions and continuous development
• Provide technical advice and share knowledge across the team

• Experience developing and maintaining Drupal or equivalent CMS-based websites
• Strong PHP (Twig) development skills with clean, maintainable code
• Experience building custom Drupal modules, themes and site functionality
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery and modern front-end practices
• Experience using Git and GitHub for source control
• Understanding of web accessibility standards and inclusive design
• Knowledge of testing approaches and code review practices
• Experience with REST APIs, system integrations and containerised environments (Docker or DDEV)
• Understanding of website performance, analytics and SEO
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical colleagues in cross-functional teams
