Overview

In this role you will deliver storage and backup engineering expertise within Sopra Steria’s Aerospace Defence and Security sector, acting as a technical escalation point and partnering with project teams on a major European-wide initiative. You will work closely with customers to manage BAU storage tasks, capacity planning and performance tuning, while developing specialist skills in SAN/NAS, backups and recovery. The position offers-site flexibility across Newport, Portsmouth or Stevenage with SC clearance in scope. This is a hands-on role for an aspiring expert who wants to shape robust storage solutions in a security-critical environment.

Responsibilities
  • Be the point of technical escalation for storage and backup issues
  • Maintain a strong customer focus across BAU ticketing and task management for Storage and Backup
  • Conduct capacity planning, performance tuning and storage optimisation across multiple environments
  • Collaborate with projects team on upcoming large-scale, European-wide initiatives
Key requirements
  • Working knowledge of storage services, hardware deployment, configuration, and administration (NetApp preferred)
  • Strong NAS/SAN provisioning, NFS/SMB shares, and storage VMs (SVMs) experience
  • Experience upgrading storage appliances and related processes
  • Knowledge of Fibre Channel zoning and LUN creation (preferred)
  • Experience with Backup tooling and technologies (Veeam preferred); snapshot backups and robotic libraries
  • Backup administration capabilities including policy design, scheduling, retention, restore and recovery workflows
  • Background with regulatory, encryption, retention, and audit requirements (a bonus)
  • SC clearance eligible; sole British citizen required
