Intermediate Ruby Backend Engineer

Build Ruby backend features remotely in Canada for GitLab, using APIs, databases, testing, and AI coding tools daily. Own delivery with autonomy.

As an Intermediate Backend Engineer, you will clarify problems, design solutions, and ship production improvements. You will work with Ruby/Rails, Go, or another modern backend language. Collaboration spans Product Management, Frontend, Infrastructure, and Security, with written communication supporting asynchronous work.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, implement, test, and ship backend features
• Maintain secure, observable, performant APIs and services
• Manage data models, migrations, indexes, and query behavior
• Improve automated testing and review backend code
• Investigate failures and support operational ownership

Requirements:

• Professional production backend application development experience
• Strong programming, API, database, testing, and debugging fundamentals
• Experience with Ruby/Rails, Go, or modern backend languages
• Practical judgment about security, reliability, and performance
• Clear written communication in remote asynchronous environments
