Overview
In this internship, you join the BGP Research group within Cisco ThousandEyes to study real-world BGP usage and develop data-driven algorithms and tools. You collaborate with researchers, engineers, and product partners to analyze large-scale BGP data, characterize routing behavior, and prototype solutions that advance Internet topology understanding. The role emphasizes hands-on learning, rapid experimentation, and turning research ideas into practical components used in production and in internal artifacts. You’ll contribute to publications and present findings at leading venues, shaping network assurance work at scale.
Responsibilities- Analyze large-scale BGP data and routing measurements to characterize routing behavior
- Prototype algorithms that advance understanding of Internet topology and interconnection
- Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and product partners to turn ideas into practical solutions
- Contribute to internal research artifacts, technical reports, and research publications
- Support production systems influence and present findings at community/academic venues
- Graduate degree in Computer Science (currently pursuing)
- Strong networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, HTTP)
- Hands-on experience with BGP data or routing measurements (route collectors, MRT data, routing tables, updates)
- Demonstrated portfolio of network measurement work through publications or coursework
- Strong Python and data science/data analysis skills
