Investment Research Analyst

The Opportunity Hub UK Ltd

Town Of Oxford · Nova Scotia · Canada

Perfect role for a mid professional looking to grow their Financial Services career in Oxford.

Oxford's financial services scene has quietly grown into something worth paying attention to. Away from the noise of the City, a cluster of established investment houses and wealth management firms have built serious research capability here, and they need analysts who can think clearly and write even more clearly. This particular firm, a well-established SME with a growing client base, is looking for an Investment Research Analyst to strengthen its research function at a genuinely useful stage of its growth.

The team is small enough that your work gets read by the people who make decisions with it. That's rare. It's also structured enough that you'll know exactly what's expected of you from day one.

Here’s what you'll be doing:

  • Produce investment research notes and sector analysis that feed directly into portfolio decisions
  • Build and maintain financial models covering valuation, forecasting and scenario analysis
  • Track macroeconomic data and company-specific news, translating it into practical commentary
  • Present findings to senior colleagues and, on occasion, clients, defending your conclusions under scrutiny
  • Monitor existing holdings and flag material changes in risk or opportunity
  • Work with the wider Financial Services team to refine research methodology and reporting standards

Here are the skills you’ll need:

  • A degree in finance, economics, or a related field, plus relevant experience in an investment research or analyst role
  • Strong financial modelling skills in Excel, with comfort using Bloomberg or similar data terminals
  • Sharp written communication. You’ll need to make complex analysis readable for people who don’t have time to decode it
  • Sound judgement under pressure. Markets move fast and your analysis needs to keep up
  • Progress towards, or completion of, a CFA qualification would be an advantage, though not essential
  • A genuinely curious mind. The best analysts ask better questions, not just more of them

Key perks and benefits:

  • Salary of £48,000 to £61,500, depending on experience
  • Private medical insurance and a solid pension contribution
  • Structured annual leave with flexible working built around a full-time office role in Oxford
  • Genuine professional development opportunities, including support toward further qualifications
  • A defined role with clear scope for growth as the business expands

Why pursue a career in Financial Services?

Financial services rewards precision and punishes guesswork, which suits people who like their work to mean something. Oxford has become an increasingly attractive base for this kind of career: strong regional economy, shorter commutes than London, and firms willing to invest in analysts who show promise. An Investment Research Analyst who builds a reputation for sound judgement here won’t struggle to find the next step up.
