IT Infrastructure Engineer

In this role you stabilise and develop critical IT infrastructure for complex maritime and defence programmes. You’ll work hands-on with server and virtualization environments, help migrate to VMware stacks, and collaborate with network engineers. As part of a cross-disciplinary team, you’ll produce documentation and artefacts, mentor junior engineers, and support essential installations at BUTEC locations. This position blends hands-on delivery with design work in a security-minded, innovative environment.

• Support and deliver server and virtualization infrastructure solutions across key projects
• Migrate and optimise environments into VMware-based stacks
• Collaborate with network engineers to stabilise and improve infrastructure environments
• Build, configure and integrate systems across physical and virtual platforms
• Produce technical documentation, test plans and implementation artefacts
• Engage with stakeholders and mentor junior engineers within the team
• Travel to BUTEC in Scotland for essential installation and maintenance works (1 week every 2–3 months)

• Strong IT infrastructure experience focused on server and virtualization technologies
• Hands-on experience with VMware and virtualised environments
• Experience with Windows Server in complex environments
• Proven ability to troubleshoot, stabilise and improve infrastructure systems
• Experience working in collaborative engineering teams and engaging with stakeholders
• Ability to take ownership, work autonomously and contribute to team success
• Willingness to undergo DV clearance (security vetting)
