Job Introduction
We’re recruiting an IT Infrastructure Engineer to join Milton Keynes City Council, supporting the systems and services that keep our organisation running effectively for local people.

In this role, you’ll provide third line technical support and take ownership of key infrastructure systems, helping to maintain our server and desktop environment. Your work will underpin the day-to-day activities of ICT users across the council, ensuring systems are secure, resilient and performing well.
This is the role for you if you enjoy solving complex technical problems, working with a wide range of stakeholders and contributing to a reliable technology environment that supports our city.
This role may be suitable for home working , following an assessment. Home‑based roles require a minimum of one day per week working from the office or site.
Appointments are usually made at the bottom of the grade, with consideration given to a higher starting point only in exceptional circumstances, such as significant relevant skills or experience.
This salary grade starts at £38,510

Role Responsibilities
- Provide third line technical support across server infrastructure
- Support and manage infrastructure platforms, including system configuration
- Maintain core services such as security, compliance, messaging, patching and Microsoft technologies.
- Take ownership of support requests, diagnose faults and resolve technical issues
- Work with service desk colleagues, service teams and users to ensure continuous service delivery
- Support and maintain virtual infrastructure and security systems, including upgrades, backups and threat monitoring
Ideal Candidate
- Education to A level, NVQ level three, BTEC or equivalent in ICT, or relevant experience
- Proven experience of virtualisation technologies and Windows server environments
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively
- The ability to analyse problems and provide clear, practical solutions
- Experience translating technical information into plain English for colleagues
- The ability to work independently and remain calm under pressure
- A collaborative approach and a willingness to support wider team goals
