Full Stack Engineer – React / Node / TypeScript
If you're looking to work for a Manchester based early stage startup with big ambitions, a place where you can work closely with founders and shape product decisions this could be an interesting opportunity for you. They're building a consumer-facing platform that is already in market and gaining traction rapidly.
Following continued growth, they are looking for a talented Full Stack Engineer to become one of the earliest members of their engineering team.
This is a great opportunity for a strong mid-level developer who wants to progress towards Senior Engineer while having significantly more ownership than you'd typically get in a larger technology team.
You'll work directly with the Founding Engineer and founders, taking features from an initial customer problem through to design, development and release.
This isn't an environment where everything arrives as a perfectly defined ticket. You'll be expected to ask questions, suggest improvements, make pragmatic technical decisions and take ownership of what you build.
What you'll be doing
- Building new features across React, Node.js and TypeScript
- Working across both frontend and backend development
- Taking features from idea through to production
- Building and maintaining APIs and third-party integrations
- Working with payments, notifications and other external services
- Improving existing functionality based on real customer feedback and usage
- Contributing to architecture and technical decisions
- Supporting CI/CD and cloud infrastructure
- Writing clean, maintainable and well-tested code
- Working closely with the Founding Engineer, founders and product/design
- Helping shape engineering standards as the technology team grows
You'll ideally have:
- 3+ years' commercial software engineering experience
- Commercial experience with React
- Backend development experience with Node.js
- Genuine full-stack experience rather than being heavily weighted towards just frontend or backend
- Experience working within an early-stage startup or similarly fast-moving product environment
- Experience owning and shipping features independently
- A strong product mindset and interest in understanding the problem behind what you're building
- Confidence working with changing requirements and imperfect information
- A proactive approach to identifying problems and suggesting improvements
Experience with Stripe, mobile development/Expo, ecommerce, marketplaces or booking platforms would be useful but isn't essential.
The opportunity
You'll be joining a very small engineering team at a point where you'll genuinely be able to influence how the product and technology evolve.
Rather than owning one small component within a large engineering organisation, you'll have visibility across the full product lifecycle and work closely with the people making the business and product decisions.
My client is particularly interested in developers who enjoy the pace and ownership that comes with an early-stage business and want the opportunity to develop into a Senior Engineer as the company grows.
