Junior Developer

Permanent full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Hybrid working with 3 days a week in our London Bridge Office

What the job involves

We’re looking for a Junior Developer to join our Technology and Solutions team and help colleagues across the charity make better use of data, systems and automation. You’ll work alongside our small development team, reporting to the Product and Delivery Manager and supported by experienced technical colleagues.

You’ll contribute across the full development lifecycle, from understanding requirements and writing code to testing, deployment and support. You’ll develop and maintain software applications and automation, troubleshoot issues, document solutions and respond to first‑line requests involving data development and analysis. You’ll also help improve SharePoint and Microsoft 365 processes and work with tools such as Microsoft SQL Server, PHP, Power Automate, TOCA.IO and Copilot Studio.

As our use of AI develops, you’ll help identify, prototype and test practical solutions that reduce manual effort and improve how teams work, while making sure they are accurate, safe, well documented and used with appropriate human oversight.

This is a hands‑on development opportunity where you’ll build your technical skills, share learning and see the practical difference your work makes across the charity.

What we want from you

You’ll be at the beginning of your technology career, with demonstrable IT skills gained through formal study, a bootcamp, self‑directed learning or practical experience. You’ll have good programming fundamentals, an understanding of the software development lifecycle and some familiarity with software development tools, methods, databases or automation technologies.

We’re looking for someone who is naturally curious, thoughtful in their approach to problem‑solving and attentive to detail. You’ll be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, asking questions, sharing ideas and learning from others. You’ll be able to explain technical concepts clearly to non‑technical colleagues and will be motivated to keep developing your knowledge and skills.

Experience with tools such as SQL Server, PHP, Power Automate, SharePoint, robotic automation or AI platforms would be an advantage, but you won’t be expected to know everything from day one. Most importantly, you’ll be eager to learn, generous in sharing your knowledge and committed to using technology responsibly to make a positive difference.

This role is in salary Band 2A and is paid at the London Living Wage, currently £14.80 per hour (£28,860 per year full time). After 12 months of successful service, there will be a small increase to the midpoint of the band.

Our salaries reflect that the London office is our contractual place of work. We also pay a working‑from‑home allowance at the HMRC tax‑free rate of £312 per year.

We are committed to paying at least the London Living Wage for all roles and apply the updated rate each April.

We are a licensed sponsor for Skilled Worker visas, but we have currently exhausted our allocation of Certificates of Sponsorship and are therefore unable to offer sponsorship for the foreseeable future.

How and where we work

Colleagues attend the office at least four days per month (pro rata for part‑time colleagues) to collaborate, build relationships, and support projects and decision‑making. Due to the nature of this role we’d ask you to be in the office three days per week . You can choose where to work the rest of the time. Travel to the office is a commute, so we pay our own travel costs.

Additional in‑person attendance will be required during your first few months for induction and training, to support you to learn the role and get to know colleagues.
