Overview

In this Java-focused data engineering role, you will build backend services and APIs while owning straightforward Python ETL/ingestion to AWS and PostgreSQL. You’ll work in a lean, high‑impact team to scale data tooling for the trading platform. The role blends core Java development with data ingestion work in a hybrid (4:1) London setting. You’ll contribute to reliable deployments, monitoring, and production support while growing your data engineering capabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and enhance Java backend services (APIs, batch jobs, integrations) used across the business
  • Write clean, testable code with strong engineering discipline (testing, code reviews, debugging, production support)
  • Maintain and extend Python-based ingestion/ETL for data flow
  • Work with PostgreSQL (schemas, migrations, performant queries, data validation)
  • Improve service reliability through monitoring, logging, alerting, and CI/CD deployments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data pipelines and tooling
  • Contribute to data ingestion initiatives and platform tooling for the firm
  • Participate in production incident handling and on-call rotation
  • Assist in optimizing data-related performance and reliability
Key requirements
  • 2–5 years of experience building production systems (or equivalent)
  • Strong Java fundamentals (OO design, APIs/services, concurrency, testing)
  • Some UI development
  • Comfortable with SQL/PostgreSQL
  • Some Python experience to manage/improve ETL/ingestion
