Role Description

We are looking for a Junior Software Engineer to join our Technology Department and work with us on our Technology Roadmap, helping to deliver The Park data platform and key strategic products for Low Carbon. Working across Low Carbon's digital technology stack, you will contribute to the design, development and operation of data platforms, software services, web applications and analytical products on Microsoft Azure and Fabric. These solutions are key enablers for Low Carbon's ambition to build renewable energy generation at scale and support both operational and strategic business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of software services, APIs, integrations, web applications and digital products that support Low Carbon's operational and data platforms, and are used by business stakeholders
  • Support dashboard and reporting tool development, enabling analysis and visualisation of operational and financial performance
  • Support the development and maintenance of data pipelines, data models and Lakehouses using Microsoft Fabric
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and deployment processes using Azure DevOps
  • Participate in code reviews and software design discussions, learning and applying engineering best practices whilst developing proficiency with modern AI-assisted development tools
  • Assist in monitoring, troubleshooting and improving data pipelines and production systems, supporting platform reliability, data quality and performance
  • Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to understand needs and deliver solutions
  • Maintain technical documentation and adhere to technology governance, security and compliance standards, ensuring solutions are maintainable

Essential Requirements

  • Demonstrable capability in software engineering, data engineering, analytics, computer science, or a related discipline through formal education, apprenticeships, certifications, or practical experience
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle principles, including version control, testing and deployment practices
  • Strong Python programming skills
  • Fluency in SQL
  • Experience with Power BI
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Interest in renewable energy technologies

Helpful, but not Essential Requirements

  • Experience developing web applications and/or APIs
  • Experience working in AI-enabled development environments
  • Experience with Azure DevOps and working with Git-based development workflows
  • Experience working with solar and battery operational data
