Junior Software Engineer (ecommerce)
Better Placed
Manchester / Trafford Park – 4 days onsite
My client is a fast-growing, international eCommerce business continuing to invest heavily in its technology and engineering capability.
They're now looking for a Junior Software Engineer to join the team, working alongside experienced engineers on the systems and integrations that power a high-volume D2C eCommerce operation.
This would suit someone with around 1-2 years' commercial software engineering experience who wants to accelerate their development in a genuinely hands-on environment.
This isn't a role where you'll be stuck maintaining one small part of a system. You'll get exposure across backend development, APIs, integrations, eCommerce platforms and cloud infrastructure, with plenty of opportunity to learn from more experienced engineers.
What you'll be doing
Building and maintaining backend services using Node.js / TypeScript
Developing REST/GraphQL APIs and third-party integrations
Working across systems supporting eCommerce, payments, orders, inventory and fulfilment
Integrating with platforms such as Shopify and other operational systems
Working with AWS/serverless technologies
Supporting data flows between different internal and external platforms
Troubleshooting issues and improving existing systems
Working closely with senior engineers and the wider technology team
What they're looking for
You’ll have 1-2 years' commercial development experience and a good grounding in:
- Node.js
- APIs and backend development
- SQL or NoSQL databases
- Git and modern development practices
Any exposure to Shopify, AWS, payments, ERP systems, order management, logistics or third-party integrations would be a big advantage, but they're not expecting someone at this level to have everything.
It's a strong opportunity for an early-career engineer who already has some commercial experience and wants exposure to the technology behind a rapidly scaling eCommerce business.
