Lead AI Automation Engineer

Design agentic AI workflows with Claude, Gemini, and MCP as a Lead Engineer at Xero’s Internal AI Accelerator Squad. Work hybrid, combining home autonomy with office boost days.

This Lead Engineer role focuses on delivering AI-driven solutions from discovery through production. You will build agents, copilots, or RAG systems, integrate APIs, and use Python or TypeScript. Your work will translate business pain points into secure, auditable automation across Xero.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and iterate AI agents and workflow orchestrations
• Integrate AI systems with Salesforce, Workday, Slack, and NetSuite
• Develop reusable automation patterns and shared business templates
• Build evaluation and monitoring frameworks for AI workflows
• Lead delivery from discovery through production

Requirements:

• Experience operating production applications or automations
• Hands-on delivery of agents, copilots, or RAG systems
• Proficiency in Python or TypeScript, SDKs, and webhooks
• Systems-thinking approach to security, auditability, and controlled blast radius
• Experience partnering with non-technical stakeholders and coaching others
