Lead Analytics Engineer

In this role you will own and shape the data modelling strategy to enable fast, reliable data-driven decisions for Funding Circle’s platform. You’ll lead the design of scalable data models and features, driving governance and best practices across SQL, dbt, Python, and PySpark. You’ll mentor engineers, collaborate with product and engineering teams, and translate business needs into robust technical solutions that scale. This is a mission-driven fintech role where your work directly impacts how small businesses access funding at speed.

• Owns data modelling strategy and governance
• Designs and implements new data features (e.g., star schema) to optimise data usability
• Sets standards for SQL, dbt, Python, PySpark usage
• Becomes business domain expert and translates requirements into technical solutions
• Delivers high-quality, scalable, maintainable data models and code
• Co-owns backlog with Engineering Manager and helps break down technical requirements

• Extensive experience in SQL, Python, PySpark (and related data processing languages)
• Extensive experience with dbt and (ideally) Airflow or other orchestration tools
• Strong ER modelling and dimensional modelling expertise
• Experience with Cloud Data Warehousing (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery) and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Familiarity with Tableau
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to architect AI solutions and build automated systems aligned with the mission
• Act as technical mentor to enable broader adoption of advanced AI and data capabilities
• Fintech/Financial Services background preferred but not essential
