Overview

In this Lead Cloud Network Engineer role you will own the design, delivery and troubleshooting of AWS networking with a focus on reliability, resilience and security. You will drive highly available architectures across VPCs, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect and more, while embedding least privilege and threat protection. You will collaborate with Cyber Security and other tech teams to secure and observe the network, and you will lead infrastructure as code via Terraform. This role blends hands-on engineering with technical leadership in a fast-paced, profitable hedge fund environment.

Responsibilities
  • Design, deliver and troubleshoot AWS cloud networking with emphasis on reliability, resilience and security
  • Create highly available network architectures across VPCs, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPN, Route 53, SGs and NACLs
  • Collaborate with Cyber Security to implement and enhance cloud network security controls
  • Design and maintain secure hybrid connectivity between AWS, Azure and on-premises datacentres
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform; build reusable modules and automate network provisioning
  • Define cloud networking standards, mentor engineers and collaborate with DevOps, Platform and wider tech teams
  • Implement monitoring, observability and capacity planning across the network estate
  • Lead change management processes through CI/CD pipelines for network provisioning
Key requirements
  • In-depth AWS networking expertise (VPC, Transit Gateway, Direct Connect, VPN, Route 53, security groups, NACLs)
  • AWS Advanced Networking Specialty certification (or working towards it)
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code skills with Terraform (modules, state management, workspaces)
  • Technical leadership with ability to set direction and mentor others
  • Design for reliability and resilience (HA, failover, disaster recovery)
  • Solid network security knowledge (segmentation, least privilege, secure connectivity, threat protection)
  • Automation and CI/CD experience for provisioning, pipelines and network tooling
  • Knowledge of Routing and Switching (BGP), VPNs (IPSec, SSL), Network Monitoring and Observability
