Overview

In this Lead Data Engineer role, you drive data foundations and end-to-end solutions to maximize data value while shaping a data-driven culture across IT and business teams. You will mentor engineers, translate data strategy into actionable IT solutions, and lead initiatives that support major business programs. The role centers on delivering reliable, accessible data that informs decisions and fuels business impact. You’ll operate at scale, accelerating pilots and future projects in a hybrid London environment.

Responsibilities
  • Design and build data foundations and end-to-end data solutions to maximize value
  • Foster a data-driven mindset across IT and business stakeholders
  • Mentor junior engineers as a subject matter expert
  • Translate vision and data strategy into IT solutions and measurable results
  • Lead and embed Data Foundation initiatives supporting key business programs
  • Coordinate change, incident, and problem management processes
  • Present data analysis findings to stakeholders as data expert
  • Improve implementation efficiency across pilots and projects to reduce cost and increase speed and value
Key requirements
  • 8+ years of data engineering experience
  • Cloud platform expertise in AWS or Azure
  • Strong ELT proficiency
  • Strong data modeling skills
  • Experience with data integration and ingestion
  • Proficiency with GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps
  • Experience with data platforms/tools (Azure Data Factory, Databricks, SQL Database, Synapse Analytics, Stream Analytics, AWS Glue, Airflow, Kinesis, Redshift, SonarQube, PyTest)
  • Experience in commodity trading and energy sector operations
  • Strong communication skills for technical and business audiences in hybrid teams
