Lead Data Scientist - KYC/onboarding

As Technical Lead Data Scientist in Wise’s KYC and Onboarding team, you own the ML model lifecycle—from training and evaluation to production deployment—applied to document verification. You’ll work with cross-functional partners to translate data insights into business impact and mentor juniors. You’ll advance deep learning and data pipelines to improve onboarding risk controls while maintaining a scalable Python codebase. This role combines research with hands-on delivery in a hybrid London setting, contributing to Wise’s mission of seamless, secure money movement.

• Plan and ideate data science projects with cross-functional teams
• Apply machine learning/data science techniques to optimize KYC processes
• Communicate value, limitations, and impact of initiatives to diverse stakeholders
• Manage and create large image and tabular datasets for KYC workflows
• Iterate on deep learning image models and improve model performance
• Measure, monitor, and optimize ML models in production
• Maintain and develop a large Python codebase with best practices
• Keep up-to-date with ML advances and apply relevant ideas to production systems
• Research document verification to prevent criminal activity
• Mentor junior team members and promote best practices in data science
