The Lead Engineer
The Lead Engineer is a senior, hands-on technical leader with overall accountability for designing, building and governing Group Products (the "Products"): Group Data: Advanced Analytics. A self-serve, cloud-native analytics product built on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). We support our stakeholders to utilise GCP tooling for analysis via Python, including model-serving. Our roadmap includes introducing a data integration layer to further drive value adoption, as well as supporting more advanced machine learning use cases. Technology Insights Centre (TIC). TIC aims to put commercial metrics regarding technology into the hands of decision makers, quickly and reliably. We’re starting small but have ambitions to deliver meaningful organisation-wide change. We’re building out the capability from the beginning.
How you’ll help us make health happen
- Provide DevOps and Data engineering leadership for the Products, ensuring high standards of build, testing, architecture, and delivery.
- Design secure, scalable cloud analytics solutions and drive the technical roadmap from concept through to implementation.
- Champion modern engineering practices, including automation, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and observability.
- Embed security, governance, and regulatory compliance into all solutions, balancing innovation with risk management.
- Collaborate with product teams and senior stakeholders to deliver business value and influence technical direction.
- Remain hands-on with solution design, code reviews, and complex technical challenges while coaching and developing engineers.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, engineering excellence, and knowledge sharing across teams.
What you'll bring
- Extensive experience designing, implementing, and operating cloud-based technology products, ideally within GCP or a comparable cloud platform.
- Strong expertise in automation, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and modern engineering practices.
- Experience with secure data integration, including APIs, databases, and data pipelines, alongside authentication and access technologies such as OAuth and OIDC.
- Proven ability to design secure, scalable solutions within regulated environments, with a strong understanding of governance, security, and compliance frameworks.
- Track record of delivering complex enterprise-scale technology solutions across large and multinational organisations.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing engineering teams.
- Knowledge of SQL and Python is advantageous, while experience with tools such as FiveTran or Airbyte would be beneficial.
