Overview

In this role you will provide strategic architectural leadership across HMCTS, working with senior leaders to shape digital services and transformation. You will develop enterprise strategies, target architectures and roadmaps, ensuring decisions align with long-term priorities. You’ll guide governance, drive reuse of patterns and platforms, and communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences. This is a high-impact position that supports cross-government standards and broad organisational goals, marrying strategy with delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Provide enterprise architecture leadership, governance and assurance for major initiatives
  • Develop and maintain enterprise architecture strategies, principles, standards, target architectures and roadmaps
  • Guide architectural decision-making across programmes, products and services
  • Identify strategic risks, dependencies and opportunities and advise senior stakeholders
  • Drive adoption of common platforms, reusable architectural patterns and strategic technology choices
  • Ensure alignment with security, privacy, accessibility, interoperability, service design and reuse standards
  • Inform commercial and supplier decisions including sourcing strategy and whole-life value
  • Collaborate with business, technical, security, data and solution architects for joined-up decisions
  • Represent HMCTS in cross-government and MoJ architecture communities
  • Build capability through mentoring and coaching the wider architecture profession
Key requirements
  • Experience in an enterprise architecture or senior architecture leadership role
  • Strong understanding of architecture across business, data, application, technology, security and operations
  • Experience in strategy design and transformation roadmaps
  • Ability to frame complex problems and guide decision-making
  • Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience providing governance and architectural oversight for complex portfolios
  • Understanding of commercial and supplier considerations including sourcing and lock-in risk
  • Experience applying modern EA approaches including cloud, data, AI, automation, sustainability and reuse
