Lead Infrastructure Engineer

In this role you will lead a small cloud team to deliver the council’s cloud migration ambitions, chiefly moving from on‑prem to Microsoft Azure. You shape and execute the cloud strategy, ensuring secure, resilient, and cost‑effective services that support digital transformation. You will collaborate with stakeholders to modernise critical services and enable new ways of working. This is a hands‑on leadership role in a large‑scale transformation with meaningful public impact.

• Lead and develop a small technical team within Digital Services
• Oversee MS Azure landing zones, compute, networks, and migrations
• Manage on‑prem compute and virtual infrastructure
• Ensure services meet agreed standards and SLAs
• Provide proactive, agile cloud services leadership to the team
• Collaborate with stakeholders to meet business requirements
• Champion new ways of working, innovation, and forward planning

• Experience leading large‑scale cloud migration programmes
• Strong leadership skills and ability to manage suppliers and contracts
• Proven expertise in Microsoft Azure IaaS/PaaS, networking, and cost optimisation
• Experience with identity and access management (Entra ID, MFA, PIM) and Zero Trust principles
• Strong communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences
• Ability to deliver cloud solutions within ITIL, governance, and cyber security contexts
• Experience with hybrid environments and cloud migration delivery
