Lead IT Infrastructure Platform Engineer

In this Lead IT Infrastructure Platform Engineer role, you provide technical ownership and design assurance across enterprise infrastructure platforms. You shape roadmaps, governance and standards, balancing security, resilience and cost to deliver high-impact changes. You’ll guide complex projects end-to-end while staying hands-on to resolve operational issues. • Provide lead-level technical ownership for infrastructure platforms and services, setting direction within architecture and roadmap
• Define platform roadmaps, lifecycle priorities, resilience objectives and technical standards
• Assess dependencies, risks and technical debt, presenting options to decision-makers
• Ensure platform decisions balance security, resilience, cost and business outcomes
• Lead development of design standards, guardrails and operational acceptance criteria
• Produce and assure high-level and low-level designs for complex changes
• Maintain decision records, risks, approvals and accountability
• Lead delivery of complex infrastructure projects from discovery to transition
• Coordinate contributors across internal teams and suppliers, resolving ambiguity
• Provide technical recommendations to project, architecture, security, service management and senior stakeholders
• Ensure complete service transition, monitoring, controls and knowledge transfer
• Provide lead-level operational support for major incidents and complex issues
• Guide diagnosis and recovery with evidence-based decisions
• Lead technical problem management and sustainable improvements
• Review service trends and prioritize resilience improvements
• Participate in operational cover as required
• Provide coaching and design guidance to engineers without line-management authority
• Build alignment across technical leads, architecture, security and delivery teams
• Represent platform in governance and delivery forums
• Raise engineering practice quality through standards and knowledge sharing

• Eight or more years in infrastructure engineering at senior level
• Experience designing and governing enterprise infrastructure services in complex organisations
• Proven leadership of complex projects and multi-team initiatives
• Experience producing high- and low-level designs and implementation strategies
• Ownership of platform roadmaps, governance or service-improvement portfolios
• Experience leading incidents and complex problems with sustainable follow-through
• Ability to influence architecture, security, service management and suppliers without formal authority
• Solid decision-making under ambiguity
• Deep practical knowledge across multiple enterprise infrastructure domains
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure infrastructure and related services
• Strong knowledge of secure access and ZTNA/SASE architectures (e.g., Zscaler ZIA/ZPA)
• Broad capability across privileged access management, virtualization, security tools, backup, monitoring, resilience and business continuity
• Ability to translate architecture into implementable, supportable services
• Security-by-design and governance understanding
• PowerShell and IaC/DevOps tooling (Terraform, Bicep, Azure DevOps)
• Ability to balance quality, risk, cost and business value
• Clear communication of risks and recommendations to senior stakeholders
• Comfort with supplier challenges and multi-stakeholder negotiation
