Lead Software Engineer

In this Lead Software Engineer role, you will own the end-to-end delivery of secure software solutions for defence, cyber, and intelligence programmes. You’ll set technical direction, mentor teams, and partner with product owners and customers to translate needs into robust systems. The role combines architecture, delivery leadership, and hands-on engineering to raise quality, security, and maintainability. You’ll work across cross-functional teams to shape long-term strategy and drive impactful projects. A DV clearance is available through the employer if needed.

• Define long-term technical strategy and guide system design
• Act as the technical liaison between engineering, product, operations, and customers
• Oversee design, build, test, debug, and documentation of reliable, deployment-ready code

• Proven delivery of complex, high-visibility initiatives with end-to-end ownership
• Deep expertise in at least one modern language (Java, Python, C++, Go, Rust, JS/TS)
• Hands-on Linux, Git, CI/CD, and automated testing
• Ability to weigh technical trade-offs and clearly communicate decisions
