Overview

As Lead Software Engineer you will drive technical strategy and architectural decisions for secure, scalable software addressing critical national infrastructure. You’ll mentor engineers and collaborate with customers, product owners and teams across the full development lifecycle. This role situates you at the heart of defence, cyber and intelligence programmes, enabling impactful, mission‑critical solutions. The opportunity combines technical leadership with hands-on development in a security-conscious, cross‑functional setting.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership across the full software development lifecycle
  • Shape technical strategy and drive architectural decisions
  • Mentor and support engineers to deliver complex projects
  • Collaborate with customers, product owners and engineering teams
  • Deliver high-quality, secure software across Java, Python, C++, Go, Rust or JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Advance practices in Linux, Git, CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
  • Work with cloud technologies, particularly AWS in an Agile environment
Key requirements
  • Experience in software development using Java, Python, C++, Go, Rust or JavaScript/TypeScript
  • System architecture and technical leadership
  • Proficiency with Linux, Git, CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
  • Cloud technologies, particularly AWS
  • Agile development methodologies and collaborative engineering environments
  • Mentoring and supporting teams to deliver complex software projects
  • Eligible to obtain UK DV security clearance (DV)
