Overview
In this role, you guide the end-to-end architecture for bp’s gas and power trading platform, driving modernization with cloud-native, scalable designs. You collaborate with traders, product owners, and engineers to deliver robust solutions across front-, middle-, and back-office workflows. You shape architecture for real-time trading conditions and operational excellence, leveraging modern patterns to support growth. This is a high-impact opportunity to influence a critical platform used in fast-moving energy markets.
Responsibilities- Lead architectural direction for trading systems and document key decisions
- Translate complex requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions
- Collaborate with product owners, developers, data engineers, and partners to align design with business goals
- Guide redesign of trading capabilities across front-, middle-, and back-office workflows
- Promote Agile, DevOps, and CI/CD practices across teams
- Provide domain expertise and advisory support during delivery and design reviews
- Ensure robustness, resilience, and operational readiness of solutions
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical field
- Deep experience in physical Gas and/or Power trading, including contract optionality, optimisation, scheduling, and lifecycle understanding
- Strong knowledge of options modelling and dependency graphs
- Hands-on experience with microservices, messaging, caching, and cloud-native patterns
- Data Architecture experience for transactional and analytical systems, real-time reporting, and MongoDB
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication
- Collaborative mindset across multi-disciplinary teams
- Microservices architecture and containerisation
- Cloud hosting (AWS strongly preferred)
- Messaging and caching patterns
