Overview

As Lead SQL Developer, you will shape data solutions that enable informed decision making and operational improvements. You’ll work within the development team to transform business requirements into robust database and integration components, collaborating across developers, analysts, and stakeholders. You’ll lead and mentor a team of SQL Developers while ensuring solutions align with quality, programme, and cost targets. This role combines hands-on SQL with leadership in a growing, high-impact data environment in Leeds.

Responsibilities
  • Analyse business requirements and translate them into database and integration solutions
  • Design, develop and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, scripts and database objects
  • Build and support integrations between internal and third-party systems
  • Integrate, transform and validate data for reporting and operational processes
  • Investigate and resolve data, reporting, performance and integration issues
  • Document data flows and technical changes
  • Collaborate with developers, business analysts and stakeholders to deliver data solutions
  • Lead, coach and develop a team of SQL Developers and manage performance and development conversations
  • Provide direction and oversight of project controls ensuring quality, programme and cost compliance
Key requirements
  • At least 5 years' experience in a SQL Dev, Database Dev or Data Engineer role
  • Experience managing a team and mentoring others
  • Strong Microsoft SQL Server experience (queries, stored procedures, scripts, objects)
  • Experience creating or supporting data feeds, ETL/ELT processes, integrations or data pipelines
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Experience using Git for source control
  • Experience developing or supporting Python-based solutions
