Lead Technical Architect

Overview

As Lead Technical Architect you will shape and deliver complex digital and data solutions for UK Government programmes. You’ll steer end-to-end architectures across cloud, applications, data, and integration, aligning designs with government policies and trusted standards. You’ll influence senior stakeholders, drive technical governance, and mentor teams in a fast-paced, high-trust environment. This role offers impact at scale, shaping secure, reusable architectures for mission-critical public services.

• Lead the technical design and architecture of complex public sector programmes
• Define end-to-end architectures spanning cloud platforms, applications, data, security, and integration
• Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure alignment with business goals and government constraints
• Support delivery phases from discovery to live, ensuring GDS Service Standards and assurance processes
• Drive architectural decision-making, governance, and reusability across programmes
• Assist pre-sales, bids, and client proposals as a technical SME
• Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to evolving public sector offerings

• Extensive experience designing and delivering digital and data solutions in the UK Government or wider Public Sector
• Deep knowledge of enterprise architecture patterns, public cloud services (Azure, AWS), application design, integration (API, event-driven), and data platforms
• Proven track record in shaping client strategies, operating models, and business case development
• Bid and pre-sales experience, including proposal shaping and presenting to stakeholders
• Understanding of government standards and frameworks (Digital Service Standard, GDS assessment, NCSC cloud security) and assurance models
• Experience in agile delivery and cross-domain collaboration
• Excellent communication and leadership, able to advocate strategic solutions at executive level
• Essential: extensive EA experience in government or regulated industries; background in consulting/systems integration or technology leadership in public sector
• Desirable: TOGAF, SAFe, or cloud architect certifications; understanding of government assurance frameworks and legacy modernisation; degree in technology or equivalent experience
