Lead Test Engineer

Join Saab UK Fareham as Lead Test Engineer to drive end-to-end testing of electro-mechanical systems for development and production. You will lead a Test Engineering group, shaping test strategies, assets and reports to prove requirements. The role combines hardware, software and data analysis to ensure robust products for challenging environments. You will work with cross-functional teams to accelerate innovation in underwater robotics and related systems.

• Lead and mentor the Test Engineering team, coordinating workload and external parties
• Analyse requirements and derive test cases for development and production lifecycles
• Plan, design and execute test cases to verify system conformance across electro-mechanical domains
• Close workload packages, manage formal test reports and evidence for investigations
• Design test jigs, harnesses and software for test execution, including automation where relevant
• Develop data processing/ filtering software to extract results into databases or analysis tools
• Manage internal test facilities and liaise with external test facilities (EMC, vibration, pools)
• Conduct fault finding and failure analysis
• Document and present results and findings

• HNC or Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
• Electrical and Electronic Engineering competence
• Experience in personnel supervision/mentorship
• Ability to work unsupervised to tight timescales
• Working knowledge of Mechanical Engineering principles
• Working knowledge of software principles related to embedded products and tool chains
• High-level proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Experience with NI LabVIEW and TestStand in test/measurement environments
• Experience programming scripts in Python, Visual Basic, C, C++
• 3 years in a test-focused role or test equipment development
• Proven data capture and analysis experience
• Expertise in Verification & Validation processes and tools
• Experience on multi-disciplinary systems (electrical, mechanical, software)
• Excellent test equipment knowledge and data logging
• Strong communication skills and proactive, enthusiastic mindset
• Desirable: Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering; qualifications in Mechanical Engineering and/or Software; NI certified developer
• Experience with system engineering/project tools – EA/DOORS; offshore/subsea industry knowledge
• Knowledge of CE/DNV certification and industry standards
• Advanced Excel skills; data archiving or controlled repositories management
