Overview

As Lead Test Engineer in Home Office Digital, you will drive test engineering strategies across programs, shaping quality in large, complex DevOps environments. You’ll own test frameworks, contribute to portfolio-level testing, and enable scalable, data-driven reporting and automation. You will coach a team of test engineers and promote innovative, cost-effective testing approaches across critical government services. Responsibilities
  • Own and evolve test frameworks, deliver scalable frameworks at scale
  • Lead and coach a team of test engineers, assess and improve testing processes
  • Promote convergence and shared capabilities within test engineering
  • Evaluate and adopt innovative testing tools and techniques (virtualization, data mocking, contract testing, automated test data management)
  • Enable real-time and roll-up automation test reporting
  • Manage test infrastructure usage and parallel/distributed tests
  • Leverage container and cloud tech to accelerate and scale tests while controlling costs
  • Collaborate to promote code quality, accessibility testing, observability, and testing best practices
  • Participate in QAT Test Engineering community and recruitment initiatives
Key requirements
  • Java programming for automated tests and utilities
  • Selenium, RestAssured, Serenity BDD (or similar)
  • Maven or Gradle, Git
  • JUnit and assertion libraries, data serialization
  • Security and accessibility practices (OWASP Top 10, WCAG)
  • CI/CD and release pipeline understanding
  • Docker and Kubernetes familiarity
  • POM design pattern and SOLID principles
  • Ability to understand performance tests and read performance reports
