Lead/Senior Backend Software Engineer

As a Lead/Senior Backend Engineer in our London team, you will shape the software platform that enables new in-store experiences and supports growth. You’ll guide design and architecture, deliver high-quality code, and mentor teammates to raise engineering performance. You’ll work closely with cross-functional partners to ensure scalable, reliable systems for bite-size gamified advertising. This role offers impact through building a platform used at scale and shaping engineering practices.

• Design solutions and determine feasibility based on user needs
• Write well-structured, testable code and integrate components into a full system
• Develop verification plans, QA procedures, and maintain software functionality
• Document requirements, deploy tooling, and tailor processes and metrics
• Lead and coach junior engineers, promote best practices, and drive training
• Stay up-to-date with state-of-the-art tools and development techniques
• Support international collaboration and adapt communication for diverse audiences

• Proven software engineering experience
• BSc in Computer Science or Engineering (MSc preferred)
• Ability to develop in Java
• Experience with functional programming languages
• Strong knowledge of relational databases, SQL, ORM (JPA2, Hibernate) and NoSQL
• Hands-on design of interactive applications
• Experience with test-driven development
• Mastery of software engineering tools
• Ability to document requirements and specifications
• Familiarity with agile development and release processes
• Experience working in international environments
• Strong communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
