As Product and Index Counsel at Bloomberg, you guide the development, launch, and governance of data and technology products, ensuring compliance with laws and internal standards. You collaborate with product, engineering, data science, and business leaders to shape product strategy, data use, privacy, AI, IP, and regulatory considerations across the lifecycle. You support the index offerings and licensing programs, balancing innovation with risk management. The role combines hands-on legal guidance with mentoring for the negotiations team, contributing to Bloomberg’s growth and integrity. Responsibilities- Advise Product, Engineering, and Finance teams throughout product development and on index offerings, covering design, data use, and commercialization
- Identify and manage legal risks as products evolve, including generative and agentic AI considerations
- Collaborate with Legal, Compliance and Risk on privacy, data security, IP, and regulatory issues
- Draft and review product terms, user agreements, disclosures, policies, and advise on marketing and client communications
- Develop scalable tools and frameworks with Compliance and Risk to manage product legal risk
- Monitor emerging laws and regulations affecting Bloomberg’s technology, AI, data, and financial products
- Negotiate customer and vendor agreements across licenses and services
- Advise on challenging licensing transactions for Product and Business teams
- Oversee and mentor Negotiations team members
- JD degree and active membership in New York bar or qualified in England and Wales (or equivalent)
- 7+ years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years in-house at a tech/fintech/index/data-driven company or advising such clients at a top law firm
- Strong understanding of product development lifecycles, especially for data/analytics or AI-driven products
- Excellent drafting, attention to detail, and negotiation skills
- Working knowledge of IP, commercial contracts, financial indices, and regulatory frameworks in financial markets
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills with ability to influence cross-functional teams
- Practical, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
