As a Linux Engineer at G-Research, you will build and evolve the Linux platforms (RHEL and Ubuntu) that underpin our compute environment. You’ll shape provisioning, security, observability, and tooling to support large-scale quantitative research. You’ll work across the Linux stack and contribute to AI-driven, autonomous operations for safer, smarter infrastructure. This role combines deep Linux expertise with automation and performance optimization to enable fast, reliable discovery. - Build, release and maintain core Linux OS images across the estate
- Develop provisioning and lifecycle management systems (PXE boot, kickstart, cloud-init)
- Design and maintain APIs, databases and package tooling used across the firm
- Apply Infrastructure as Code practices, primarily using Ansible
- Lead vulnerability response (CVE triage and kernel/package remediation)
- Help design agentic frameworks for safe, autonomous detection and remediation
- Improve observability and telemetry to track OS health, provisioning and compliance
- Strong hands-on experience with Linux systems (RHEL and Ubuntu)
- Deep knowledge of Linux internals (boot process, kernel modules, filesystems, package management)
- Experience with kernel optimization and performance tuning (scheduler, memory, I/O) - desirable
- Knowledge of eBPF for observability, performance analysis and security enforcement - strong plus
- Strong programming skills (Python)
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Ansible) and automation
- Strong understanding of Linux security, hardening, patch management and CIS benchmarks
- Experience with or interest in agentic/AI-driven operations - beneficial
