Overview

As a senior engineer in Citis London High Performance Architectures team, you will design and implement low-latency systems powering algorithmic trading. You’ll work hands-on in Rust and Java, contributing to in-house microservices and event-sourced frameworks that achieve microsecond-scale response times. You’ll mentor developers, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and help modernize applications across Citi’s trading platforms. This role offers exposure to global markets, scale, and meaningful impact on financial systems.

Responsibilities
  • Hands-on development in Rust or Java within a low-latency microservices framework
  • Lead integration of functions to meet goals and deploy new products
  • Analyze complex business and system processes to design high-level solutions
  • Provide expert Java low-latency development guidance and optimization
  • Consult with end users to capture system specifications and influence design
  • Engage with senior leaders and external partners for alignment
  • Mentor junior developers and less experienced engineers
  • Support/educate teams on market data, replay and backtest utilities
  • Contribute to performance tuning and architectural elegance
  • Document key system flows and model aspects using diagrams (UML)

Key requirements
  • Subject Matter Expert in Applications Development
  • Experience with Algorithmic Trading development in low-latency environments
  • Knowledge of Market Data handling and time-series databases (e.g., KDB)
  • Leadership, project management, and development skills
  • Strong Java proficiency, JVM, Linux, system calls, kernel knowledge
  • TCP/IP networking, hardware-accelerated kernel bypass (e.g., Solarflare OpenOnload)
  • Performance assessment and targeted tuning
  • Strong design/architecture skills and UML documentation
  • Excellent communication and consensus-building abilities
  • Nice to have: background in C++
  • Great communicator with high EQ
