In this role you will own the macOS architecture for Andor’s commercial software, delivering high-performance image analysis and 3D rendering on Apple platforms. You’ll optimize for Apple Silicon, ensure cross‑platform compatibility, and lead scalable, robust macOS solutions in a collaborative, cross‑functional team. You’ll tackle platform-specific challenges in rendering, memory management and threading, shaping software used in world‑leading scientific research. This is a mission‑critical role at the intersection of science and engineering, with a clear impact on performance and reliability.

- Architect, design, develop and maintain native macOS features and cross-platform C++ core libraries
- Lead optimization of software for Apple Silicon and macOS ecosystem
- Resolve platform-specific challenges in rendering, memory management and multi-threading
- Deliver robust, scalable, and maintainable solutions for complex problems
- Drive improvements in software development, testing and deployment processes
- Manage and optimize Xcode builds, CMake configurations and macOS CI/CD pipelines
- Gather requirements for new and legacy products
- Support Mac-specific deployments and technical issues for internal teams and customers
- Participate in technical investigations, innovation initiatives and architectural decisions
- Collaborate within Agile development teams
- Occasionally travel to other offices and customer sites
- Degree in Software Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 5 years' software development experience
- Strong proficiency in C++ and OO design
- Deep understanding of macOS ecosystem, Apple Silicon, Xcode, build pipelines and memory profiling tools
- Strong Git and source control experience
- Experience across full software development lifecycle
- Strong knowledge of software architecture, design patterns and Clean Code principles
- Excellent understanding of data structures, algorithms and computational complexity
- Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies
- Proven ability to learn quickly, take initiative and solve complex technical problems
