Overview
In this role you will develop and maintain mission-critical mainframe applications across the full development lifecycle to support automated warehouse and distribution operations. You will work with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure reliable production delivery. You will troubleshoot, support, and continuously improve mainframe systems, including out-of-hours coverage. This is an opportunity to shape core systems in a leading UK organisation and contribute to scalable, resilient operations.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain applications using COBOL, CICS, JCL or IBM DB2
- Deliver development work from requirements through to testing and deployment
- Translate business requirements into technical solutions
- Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders on projects and improvements
- Support and troubleshoot existing mainframe applications
- Provide user support and participate in out-of-hours cover
- Contribute to continuous improvement across development processes
- Strong commercial experience with COBOL, CICS, JCL or IBM DB2
- Proven experience delivering mainframe solutions in a production environment
- Strong understanding of the full software development lifecycle
- Experience translating business requirements into technical solutions
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience providing application support in critical environments
- SQL, Azure DevOps, Natural/ADABAS or zOS Connect would be advantageous
