In this role you will design, develop and maintain Java-based solutions for Deloitte’s Technology & Transformation practice in Belfast. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, secure, and scalable software that supports client digital transformation. You’ll stay current with Java tech and contribute to engineering best practices, while communicating complex topics to varied audiences. Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality Java codebases
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle from design to deployment
  • Provide technical input during system design
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver software solutions
  • Write well-documented code and contribute to technical documentation
  • Troubleshoot production issues and maintain live services
  • Stay up to date with Java technologies and best practices
  • Communicate complex topics to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Contribute to the engineering community
Key requirements
  • Proven Java development experience (including JVM-based languages like Kotlin and Scala) with advanced Java features
  • Experience with Spring Framework (Spring MVC, Spring Boot)
  • Designing, developing, and securing RESTful APIs with threat assessment
  • Strong OOP (SOLID), design patterns, secure coding practices
  • Containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Version control strategies (Git)
  • System performance monitoring and diagnosing performance issues
  • CI/CD pipelines/tools (Jenkins, Bitbucket Pipelines, GitHub Actions)
  • Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to understand requirements, dependencies and prioritise work
  • Mentoring junior engineers
  • Kotlin and Scala (JVM languages)
  • RESTful API design and security
  • Spring Framework (MVC, Boot)
