Overview

In this role, you will perform advanced investigations into machinery failures to identify root causes and deliver tailored solutions that minimise downtime. You will work within the Technical and Failure Investigation Department to apply analytical methods and produce clear reports for clients worldwide, sometimes including on-site data collection. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor others, and help improve service delivery while aligning with LR’s safety and quality standards. Responsibilities
  • Conduct technical investigations using computer-based analytical methods
  • Perform numerical assessments and deliver specialist advice within budgets and contracts
  • Produce client-ready reports and review colleagues’ outputs
  • Provide technical support including on-site data acquisition and occasional travel
  • Present deliverables to clients and discuss alternative solutions
  • Prepare proposals and define work scopes to meet client expectations
  • Assess time/value under fee/cost structures and contribute to service improvements
  • Mentor colleagues and share knowledge within LR
  • Manage projects, monitor progress and spending
  • Ensure compliance with procedures, accreditation, legislation and industry standards
  • Pursue CPD and maintain discipline knowledge
  • Undertake project management where applicable
Key requirements
  • Degree or equivalent in engineering or physical science (minimum two years) or marine/nautical qualifications with sea-going experience
  • Membership of a professional institution
  • Working towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status
  • English proficiency suitable for work
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, LabView and FORTRAN is advantageous
  • Knowledge of signal processing and data analysis techniques
  • Experience with FE/BE methods (NASTRAN, ABAQUS, ANSYS, MSC Marc, FEMAP) for stress and fatigue analysis
  • Understanding of linear fracture mechanics (CRACKWISE, BEASY) and probabilistic analyses advantageous
  • General knowledge of marine power plant engineering and vibration analysis of propulsion systems
  • Ability to obtain UK security clearance and visa as needed
