MLOps Engineer
SmartEdge, Lda
The MLOps Engineer will play a critical role in enabling seamless software delivery, infrastructure automation, and platform reliability across globally distributed environments. The role requires strong engineering discipline, hands‑on expertise across cloud, Kubernetes, and CI/CD tooling, and a proactive approach to improving developer experience and operational resilience.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to support global development teams, ensuring consistent, reliable, and secure software delivery across environments.
Manage and optimise source control and artefact management solutions including Git, Artifactory, Jenkins, and Docker registry to enable efficient build and deployment workflows.
Deploy, manage, and scale Kubernetes-based platforms using Terraform Enterprise, ensuring infrastructure is defined, version‑controlled, and reusable through modular design.
Develop and maintain reusable Terraform modules to standardise infrastructure provisioning and enforce consistent patterns across projects.
Implement infrastructure as code practices to orchestrate cloud resources, reduce manual intervention, and improve deployment repeatability and traceability.
Work extensively with GCP IAM to design and maintain secure access control mechanisms aligned with organisational standards and compliance requirements.
Build and maintain Helm charts to enable consistent packaging and deployment of microservices into Kubernetes environments.
Support microservices-based architectures by deploying, monitoring, and troubleshooting applications across distributed systems.
Implement and manage service mesh capabilities using Istio to enhance traffic management, security, and observability across services.
Collaborate closely with engineers, architects, and product teams within the IDEA Lab to enable rapid experimentation, innovation, and production readiness.
Ensure platform reliability through monitoring, logging, and proactive issue resolution across cloud and container environments.
Contribute to continuous improvement of DevOps practices, tooling, and standards within the IDEA Lab and broader BTB platform.
Required Skills and Experience
Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines in a globally distributed environment using Git, Artifactory, Jenkins, and Docker registry.
Experience working with GCP IAM to manage roles, permissions, and secure access to cloud resources.
Hands‑on knowledge of Helm charts for packaging and deploying applications in Kubernetes.
Hands‑on experience deploying and managing Kubernetes infrastructure using Terraform Enterprise, including the ability to write reusable Terraform modules.
Experience implementing infrastructure as code and orchestrating cloud infrastructure in scalable, automated ways.
Knowledge of core GCP services and how they integrate within modern cloud architectures.
Working knowledge of Istio or similar service mesh technologies.
Experience deploying and troubleshooting microservices in distributed environments.
Hands‑on experience with Kubernetes and Docker for containerised ML workloads.
Experience using Terraform and Helm to manage ML infrastructure and deployment pipelines.
Experience designing and managing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Harness for model build, test, and deployment workflows.
Experience in financial services or regulated environments.
Familiarity with security patterns such as mTLS, JWT, and zero‑trust networking.
Exposure to observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or similar.
Understanding of DevSecOps principles and secure software delivery pipelines.
What Success Looks Like
Consistent, reliable, and automated deployment pipelines supporting multiple teams and environments.
Highly reusable and standardised infrastructure patterns across IDEA Lab projects.
Improved developer productivity through streamlined DevOps tooling and processes.
