Overview

In this role, you will contribute as an experienced Android engineer to a banking-focused delivery team, delivering on complex Android codebases. You will work within a hybrid, short-term engagement with potential extension, focusing on understanding, mapping, and improving large production apps. You will leverage Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and multi-module architectures to derive runtime behavior and support secure, scalable mobile solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust architecture, observability, and API integration.

Responsibilities
  • Read and untangle large multi-module Android codebases and map their structure
  • Develop with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose, integrating legacy View-based UI where needed
  • Analyze architecture patterns (MVVM, MVI, Clean) and identify actual code behavior
  • Perform code archaeology, static analysis, and dependency graph extraction at scale
  • Navigate CI/CD pipelines (Fastlane, Bitrise, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Gradle/Xcode) as architectural truth
  • Reconstruct runtime behavior from instrumentation and observability tools (Crashlytics, Sentry, Dynatrace, Firebase)
  • Trace UI interactions through networking to backend services (REST/GraphQL/gRPC, OpenAPI)
  • Assess OAuth2/OIDC token flows on device and third-party SDKs
  • Address banking-specific concerns: secure storage, biometric auth, certificate pinning, feature flags, offline behavior
  • Collaborate in structured interviews, take rigorous notes, and review others’ work in a collaborative, non-defensive manner
  • Work with a self-directed, time-constrained schedule to deliver within 8 weeks
  • Read and interpret security, telemetry, and performance considerations to validate Architect’s findings
Key requirements
  • Proven Android engineering experience with Kotlin in large production codebases
  • Strong knowledge of modern Android development using Jetpack Compose and legacy UI (View)
  • Experience with architectural patterns: MVVM, MVI, Clean layering
  • Ability to perform code archaeology and static analysis across multi-module projects
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting CI/CD pipelines and Gradle/Xcode build logic
  • Experience with observability tools and instrumentation (Crashlytics, Sentry, Dynatrace, Firebase)
  • Understanding of REST/GraphQL/gRPC and API contract inspection (OpenAPI)
  • Knowledge of OAuth2/OIDC flows on device and integration with third-party SDKs
  • Banking/mobile security concepts: secure storage, biometrics, device binding, pinning, feature flags
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in English; structured interview and note-taking competence
  • Structured, evidence-based thinking
  • Collaborative and non-territorial
  • Self-directed under time pressure
  • Kotlin
  • Android
  • Jetpack Compose
