Network Architect

Leidos

Bedford · Bedfordshire · United Kingdom

Overview

In this role you design and govern secure, multi-cloud network architectures for DoD environments, collaborating with cloud, cybersecurity, and operations teams. You will standardize patterns across CSPs (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI) to enable resilient connectivity for Cloud One Next and mission systems. You’ll lead technical guidance, governance, and automation to balance security, availability, and performance. This is a mission-driven opportunity to shape enterprise networking at scale.

Pay / Benefits
  • competitive salaries
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • medical/dental/vision coverage
  • flexible work schedules
  • tuition reimbursement
Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain enterprise network architectures across AWS, Azure, GCP, and OCI including VNet/VPCs, routing, segmentation, DNS, load balancing, and network security services
  • Develop reusable reference architectures, design patterns, and standards to unify CSP networking while leveraging cloud-native features
  • Architect secure hybrid and cross-cloud connectivity with DoD networks and external services using VPNs, private circuits, interconnects, and SDN
  • Define routing, IPAM, segmentation, and trust-boundary strategies for multiple environments and security domains
  • Partner with cybersecurity to implement Zero Trust, access controls, encryption, and traffic inspection
  • Design highly available, fault-tolerant networks across regions, AZs, and redundant paths with DR and continuity planning
  • Define IaC for network provisioning (Terraform, Ansible) integrated with GitLab-based workflows
  • Establish network observability through monitoring, logging, telemetry, and performance analysis across CSPs
  • Review network changes for standards, security, and enterprise architecture alignment
  • Provide senior technical leadership and guidance to cloud, network, cybersecurity, DevSecOps, and operations teams
  • Evaluate cloud networking technologies to improve scalability, security, automation, and efficiency
  • Produce architecture diagrams, decision records, and implementation guidance for engineering teams
Key requirements
  • Extensive experience designing and operating enterprise-scale network architectures (routing, switching, firewalls, DNS, VPNs, private connectivity, segmentation)
  • Experience designing cloud network architectures across multiple CSPs (at least two of AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI)
  • Advanced cloud networking knowledge (VPC/VNet, transit, peering, private endpoints, cloud-native firewalls, NAT, DNS)
  • Strong TCP/IP and enterprise routing expertise (BGP, route propagation, CIDR, IPAM)
  • Solid network security understanding (Zero Trust, segmentation, firewalls, encryption, traffic inspection)
  • Experience with hybrid connectivity (Direct Connect/ExpressRoute/Interconnect/IPsec VPNs)
  • IaC automation experience (Terraform, Ansible, GitLab CI/CD, Git-based config management)
  • High availability design across AZs/regions and multiple connectivity paths
  • DoD or highly regulated environment experience (RMF, STIGs, NIST controls; secure enclave familiarity)
  • Clear technical communication translating architectures for engineers, cybersecurity, leadership, and government customers
  • Security clearance ability to obtain/maintain DoD Secret
  • Strong communication
  • Collaborative mindset
  • Problem-solving orientation
  • AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI cloud networking
  • VPC/VNet architectures, transit networking, peering, private endpoints
