Network Change Engineer

In this role, you will manage provisioning, modification and removal of services across critical radio and transmission networks within the London Underground environment. You will support software/firmware updates and ensure changes follow configuration management and change control processes. The position blends network engineering with rail operations, delivering safe, efficient changes in a high-stakes, cross-functional setting. You’ll work from the Network Management Centre or on site, collaborating with Service Desk, suppliers and field teams to maintain reliable rail communications. • Provision, alter and remove services across managed radio and transmission systems
• Implement agreed software and firmware updates
• Carry out network management activities and routines
• Support Change, Release and Implementation Management from NMC or on site
• Support fault-finding, system testing and Problem Management
• Maintain accurate configuration records and reflect as-installed condition in system databases
• Produce configuration status reports, work reports and technical documentation
• Communicate planned and future network changes with Service Desk teams
• Liaise with third-party suppliers to minimise disruption and prevent failures
• Coordinate and supervise work groups during planned works and faulting activities
• Provide technical support and peer training across configurable equipment
• Follow configuration management, safety and operational procedures
• Support ongoing development and maintenance of network and asset records
• Provide on-call support when required

• Previous experience in an NMC / Network Management Centre environment
• Proven experience with radio and transmission systems
• Significant experience in an Operational Service Delivery or Projects environment
• Knowledge of Transmission Systems (PDH, SDH, MPLS, IP) and related management systems
• Experience with equipment/technologies such as Marconi SMAs, MV36/MV38 platforms, Ericsson MPLS/TP, Nokia PDH (DN2, ACM2), NMS100, Nokia Synfonet, Keymile XMP/SOX, Nokia MPLS
• Knowledge of TETRA radio systems and management systems
• Understanding of configuration control and configuration management processes
• Experience in system testing and fault-finding
• Knowledge of operating systems and application software
• Ability to use IT tools and work with system databases
• Ability to interpret PCB/PCC layouts
• Ability to produce clear technical reports and documentation
• Ability to read/write procedural, technical and safety documentation
• Good Health & Safety understanding in rail environments
