Network Control Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Network Control Manager to join our Regional Operations Department.

As a dedicated Network Control Manager you will be an integral part of achieving this, while always striving to keep our customers power flowing. The Network Control Manager (NCM) is responsible for managing the safe and effective operation of the network up to and including 132kV.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing planned and fault operations and activities on the Yorkshire HV and EHV network.
  • Pursuing safety and customer service excellence.
  • Provide support and advice to the business during both BAU and major Incident events
  • Management of a team of technical and qualified engineers working on a shift rota, coupled with an ability to make decisions and work in demanding situations.
  • Effective communications and liaison with field staff, CRC and external stakeholders in planned and reactive situations
  • Production and communication of effective and clear reports to line management other parts of the business and stakeholders
  • Lead role regarding communication with Grid and external stakeholders
  • Ability to oversee and control operational practice and process between the control centre and the operational business
  • Ability to manage a team of shift engineers within Leeds Control Centre
  • Competent with DSR and OPM safety rules
  • Ability to manage system risk and elevate as necessary
  • Ability to prioritize faults from conception to completion liaising predominantly with the local regions
  • Competent in the use of IT systems specifically utilized within the control room arena
  • Able to agree and initiate load reduction requests from national grid
  • Able to represent the company on regional and or national bodies having influence on electrical operating systems
  • Demonstrates ability to produce new or revised electrical operating procedures based on either legislation or best practice

Qualifications & Attributes

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • HNC in Electrical engineering
  • Technical and protection knowledge of the Network

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience as a fully authorised engineer up to and including 132kV and protection systems
  • Understanding of basic managerial techniques
  • Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels
  • Authorisation and experience on electrical networks up to and including primary system voltage.
  • Knowledge of network operations and its processes
  • Knowledge of the Control Outage planning process

Additional Information

Due to security clearance requirements for this role, the successful applicant must undergo security vetting which normally requires at least five years verifiable residency in the UK.
