Network Design & Test Professional

In this role, you design, validate and deploy network solutions for BT’s converged core, shaping performance, security and cost efficiency. You’ll lead complex network developments, collaborate with specialists, and promote software-driven automation to meet capacity and product needs. You’ll mentor junior engineers and represent the platform in internal and vendor discussions. This is a hands-on, cross-functional opportunity to impact BT’s core network at scale.

• Lead complex network developments and artefacts for new products and platform upgrades aligned to strategy and security focus
• Collaborate with Specialist Network Developers on strategic designs
• Drive opportunities for software adoption within network automation
• Generate improvement ideas for processes and technologies within the platform
• Interpret and shape requirements with stakeholders for network deliverables
• Provide support for Live and OSS Test issues
• Scope and execute tests to ensure designs meet requirements
• Maintain test capability by installing, integrating and upgrading network equipment with consistent configuration
• Mentor junior staff in technical expertise and professional engineering
• Represent the network platform in internal and vendor meetings to ensure alignment and outcomes

• Very strong IP network knowledge; CCNA/NRS1 minimum; deeper expertise in a field of specialization
• Solid understanding of IP/MPLS, OSPF, BGP and services like VPWS/VRFs
• Experience with network test tools (IXIA or Spirent)
• Understanding of network security
• Ability to write/interpret simple programs (Python preferred)
• Understanding of network automation and description languages (Jinja2, YAML)
• Understanding of version control (GitLab)
• Experience delivering complex network solutions and cross-functional collaboration
• Experience leading projects and applying programming/scripting for tooling
