As an Oracle Database Engineer at BAE Systems in Christchurch, you will own the Oracle 19c database lifecycle, from design to production support. You will work within the Foundation team to ensure secure, robust database operations and patching, collaborating with cross-functional groups to deliver mission-critical defence software and systems. You’ll optimize performance, implement SQL packages, and manage OS configurations on Windows/Linux/RHEL. This role offers hands-on problem solving, exposure to security controls, and the chance to contribute to safety-focused technology initiatives.

- Design and implement database structures and models
- Develop and maintain database packages using SQL
- Monitor and optimize Oracle database performance and apply patches (CPU/PSU) via OPatch
- Engage with Oracle for patches and stay ahead of vulnerabilities
- Configure Windows/Linux/RHEL operating systems
- Create bespoke applications and automated deployments using PowerShell
- Support production environments including incident troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Apply full SDLC from design to testing for database-related components
- Oracle Database 19c administration in Windows Server environments
- Knowledge of user management, roles, and secure access controls (least-privilege)
- Hands-on experience with Oracle CPU and PSU patching using OPatch
- Experience supporting production environments with incident troubleshooting and root cause analysis
- Experience across the systems development lifecycle from design to testing
- Defence domain knowledge is desirable
