Payroll Consultant
Envy Consulting Group
Payroll Consultant | Workday Implementation | 6-Month Contract | Markham, ON
Envy Consulting Group is recruiting a Payroll Consultant for a large national healthcare organization with approximately 10,000 employees across Canada. The organization has started a major PeopleSoft to Workday transformation, with Payroll scheduled to go live in 2027. With a senior member of the payroll leadership team departing, they need an experienced payroll professional who can step in quickly, take ownership of the payroll workstream and help lead the organization through testing, cutover and go-live. We are looking for someone who is willing to get into the details, work alongside an experienced internal payroll team and solve problems as they arise.
What you’ll be doing
• Provide senior-level leadership across the payroll portion of the Workday implementation
• Support payroll testing, parallel runs, validation and issue resolution
• Work closely with the internal Payroll Manager, Payroll Lead and broader payroll team
• Partner with the systems implementation team and other project stakeholders
• Identify payroll risks, gaps and process issues ahead of go-live
• Support cutover planning and payroll readiness
• Troubleshoot complex payroll, time tracking and time and attendance issues
• Help ensure a smooth transition from PeopleSoft to Workday
• Remain hands-on throughout the engagement rather than operating solely at the project oversight level
What we’re looking for
• Significant senior-level Canadian payroll experience in a large, complex organization
• Hands-on Workday Payroll implementation experience is required
• Experience taking Workday Payroll through testing, parallel payrolls, cutover and go-live
• Previous PeopleSoft payroll experience is highly desirable
• Experience supporting payroll populations in the thousands
• Strong understanding of payroll controls, reconciliation, testing and data validation
• Comfortable operating as both a payroll subject matter expert and project lead
• Able to work effectively with experienced internal payroll professionals, implementation partners and senior stakeholders
• Healthcare, homecare, not-for-profit or similarly complex workforce experience would be an asset
Contract Details
• 6-month initial contract
• Markham, Ontario
• Currently 4 days per week onsite, Monday through Thursday, with Fridays remote during the critical testing and implementation period
• Longer-term hybrid flexibility is expected as the project moves beyond go-live
• Immediate priority hire
The right person will have already lived through a Workday Payroll implementation and understand what happens between testing and a successful first payroll. If you have personally helped lead a PeopleSoft to Workday Payroll conversion in a large Canadian organization, I’d like to hear from you. Please apply directly or message me confidentially for more information.
