Overview

You will join a leading rail rolling stock organisation in Edinburgh to improve fleet reliability, availability and technical performance. You will investigate safety, reliability and technical issues across the fleet using data and structured problem-solving to identify root causes and drive improvements. The role collaborates with engineering, maintenance, production, suppliers and clients to sustain safe and efficient operations. This is a chance to shape fleet performance through data-driven analysis and technical investigations.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor fleet and component performance to identify reliability gains
  • Review in-service failures, availability, maintenance records and data daily
  • Investigate defects to establish root causes and recurring failure trends
  • Lead investigations into technical incidents and safety defects with action tracking
  • Analyze vehicle systems using fleet management and data systems
  • Prepare technical reports and present findings to technical and client audiences
  • Participate in performance and client meetings to support decisions
  • Produce reports to support operational and management decisions
  • Coordinate with suppliers to resolve warranty issues with corrective actions
  • Provide materials engineering support to engineering and procurement teams
  • Identify modifications to enhance fleet reliability and performance
  • Support engineering change processes and ensure proper implementation
  • Produce technical investigation reports on significant faults
  • Use measurement equipment to diagnose on-vehicle faults
  • Maintain reliability and availability data for performance reviews
  • Collaborate with Production to prioritise repairs and engineering campaigns
  • Support Maintenance to keep documentation accurate and address technical queries
  • Contribute to technical training for engineering, maintenance and operations
  • Build cross-functional relationships to resolve issues
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across fleet performance
Key requirements
  • HND or above in an engineering-related discipline
  • Experience in systems reliability, fleet performance or engineering performance
  • Experience analyzing technical or vehicle data to identify trends and failures
  • Experience producing clear, detailed technical investigation reports
  • Strong IT skills and ability to learn new software and data systems
  • Proven ability to plan, organise and prioritise workload
  • Ability to quickly understand and adopt new technologies and engineering systems
  • Analytical and solutions-focused mindset
  • Excellent planning and organisational abilities
  • Confident decision-making with technical judgment
  • Fleet management data analysis
