About The Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior PHP Developer to join our client’s dynamic team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a developer with a strong background in PHP and Symfony to take ownership of critical web applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing new features, maintaining existing systems, and modernizing legacy applications to improve performance and security. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other developers, to deliver high-quality solutions that support business growth and operational efficiency.

The role requires a proactive individual capable of understanding complex codebases quickly, troubleshooting issues effectively, and implementing scalable, maintainable solutions. Your expertise will directly impact the stability, security, and functionality of essential business systems, making this a highly influential position within the organization.

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years’ professional experience developing and supporting mission-critical web applications.
• Extensive hands-on experience with PHP 8+ and strong proficiency in Symfony framework.
• Deep understanding of object-oriented programming principles, SOLID design principles, and common design patterns.
• Proficiency in developing and consuming RESTful APIs, including authentication and authorization mechanisms such as OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and JWT.
• Solid knowledge of front-end technologies including HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript ES6+.
• Strong SQL skills with experience in relational database design, query optimization, and performance tuning using PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar databases.
• Experience working in Linux environments, with version control systems like Git, and containerization tools such as Docker.
• Experience with automated testing frameworks, secure coding practices, and OWASP guidelines.
• Proven track record of modernizing legacy systems and reducing technical debt.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain existing web applications and supporting systems to meet evolving business requirements.
• Participate actively in all phases of the software development lifecycle within an Agile environment, including planning, development, testing, and deployment.
• Investigate and resolve production issues swiftly, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal system performance.
• Translate complex business needs into secure, scalable, and maintainable technical solutions.
• Build and integrate RESTful APIs, incorporating secure authentication and authorization protocols.
• Lead efforts to modernize legacy applications, reducing technical debt and improving system efficiency.
• Write automated unit and integration tests, conduct code reviews, and ensure adherence to best coding practices.
• Optimize application and database performance through query tuning and infrastructure improvements.
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation and follow secure coding standards to safeguard applications and data.
