As a Platform Specialist on the Database team, you will play a crucial technical role in delivering highly available, high-performance and scalable data infrastructure that supports trading and research, using the DevOps methodology. You will be part of a global systems team, working closely with development, investment and infrastructure teams to design, deploy and support cross-platform database solutions across relational and analytical engines.

You will have the opportunity to make a significant impact by treating databases as a service: automating provisioning, upgrades, patching and recovery so that teams get reliable, secure and consistent data platforms without manual effort. This is a hands-on engineering role, and you will be comfortable moving between deep database administration and automation, and between traditional servers and containerised platforms. The day to day will consist of:

  • Database Operations: Running resilient, well-tuned production clusters, including replication, failover, backup and recovery.
  • Automation & Delivery: Building tested, repeatable automation and pipelines for deploying and maintaining database estates.
  • Platform Migration: Evolving database platforms from traditional infrastructure towards container-based deployment.
  • Security & Compliance: Protecting sensitive data through hardened configuration, encryption, auditing and timely patching.
  • Observability & Reliability: Monitoring, alerting and runbooks that keep service levels high and reduce operational noise.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of database administration experience (at least PostgreSQL or ClickHouse).
  • Experience with high availability, replication, backup/PITR how and disaster recovery.
  • Knowledge of indexes, triggers, stored procedure development and optimization.
  • Knowledge of database security: TLS/PKI, audit logging, hardening, patch and CVE management.
  • Experience with Linux systems administration.
  • Basic understanding of source control concepts, best practices, and the software development lifecycle.
  • Full project life cycle ownership: project delivery from initiation to full implementation and deployment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Systematic and iterative approach to analyzing and improving systems and processes.
  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related experience.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with other database platforms ClickHouse, FoundationDb, MSSQL, MongoDb, Redis.
  • Experience with configuration management tools i.e. Chef, Terraform, Ansible.
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Experience with using observability & monitoring stack such as Prometheus exporters, LogStash, Elasticsearch, Prometheus, Thanos, Grafana, and AlertManager.
  • Experience with CI / CD pipelines.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware and containers (standalone and Kubernetes).
  • Experience with Windows systems administration.
