Platform Staff Engineer - UK

In this role, you lead large-scale platform initiatives and drive technical direction across multiple teams. You’ll mentor senior engineers and shape decisions for a distributed data platform at petabyte scale. You’ll own design, performance, and reliability while collaborating with product, design, and executives to align architecture with business goals. • Provide technical leadership and mentoring across project teams; drive architectural decisions
• Design and optimize high-performance, scalable systems for a petabyte-scale data platform
• Own identification and remediation of system and product problems with proactive planning
• Engage with stakeholders to align architectural designs with business needs
• Develop, maintain, and evolve scalable data software and sub-systems with architectural excellence
• Uphold code quality and implement optimization and best practices
• Solve complex technical problems through innovative approaches

• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation
• Build and maintain data platforms supporting analytics, ML, and BI

• Craft scaleout data pipelines balancing cost, latency, and duration for big data
• Troubleshoot systems and improve reliability and performance

• 10+ years of backend engineering with big data focus
• 7+ years in Service-Oriented Architecture, Docker-based services, microservices, API, and Data Model Design/Implementation
• Experience with large-scale, high-availability systems
• Security-focused design and development experience
• Proven leadership or significant contribution in major software projects
• Expertise in high-availability distributed data processing systems with observability
• Experience with gRPC and Protocol Buffers
• Proficiency in JVM stacks, especially Kotlin and server-side development
• Deep experience with relational and non-relational stores: Elasticsearch, Cassandra, MySQL, PostgreSQL
• Cloud-native data platform software delivery experience
• Experience selecting/extending 3rd party components for efficiency
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and feature toggles
• Observability (logging, metrics, traces) to monitor and measure subsystems
• Experience with streaming, multi-tenant data engines
• Experience designing, modifying, operating multi-tenant systems
• Experience with Envoy or AWS App Mesh
• CI/CD pipelines and microservices deployment (Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI)
