Overview

In this contract role, you will build and optimize BI solutions using Power BI, with a focus on advanced DAX, data modelling, and robust release practices. You’ll work across data sources and reporting layers to deliver scalable, user-friendly dashboards for business users. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement governance, security, and deployment pipelines. This position offers the chance to shape analytics capabilities in a fast-paced environment and contribute to BI maturity at scale.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and optimize DAX calculations for complex reporting
  • Model data using star schemas, with attention to cardinality and direction of relationships
  • Design and implement Power Query/M data transformations with features like query folding and incremental refresh
  • Write performant SQL views and manage facts/dimensions/SCDs
  • Tune performance using tools like Performance Analyzer and DAX Studio
  • Manage Power BI Service assets: workspaces, apps, gateways, and deployment pipelines
  • Implement security and governance: RLS/OLS, sensitivity labels, sharing governance
  • Follow release practices using Git, PBIP/TMDL, Tabular Editor to enable CI/CD
  • Create clear, user-friendly reports with drill-through, bookmarks, and UX-focused visuals
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver scalable analytics and governance
  • Support deployment, monitoring, and capacity management for Fabric-based BI environments
Key requirements
  • DAX proficiency with time intelligence, context transition, and debugging filter context
  • Strong data modelling knowledge (star schema, cardinality, many-to-many, role-playing dimensions)
  • Power Query/M expertise (query folding, parameters, incremental refresh)
  • SQL skills (T-SQL, performant views, fact/dimension modeling, SCDs)
  • Performance tuning experience (Performance Analyzer, DAX Studio)
  • Power BI Service experience (workspaces, apps, gateways, deployment pipelines, capacity/Fabric)
  • Security and governance knowledge (RLS/OLS, sensitivity labels)
  • Release and CI/CD practices (Git, Tabular Editor, PBIP/TMDL)
  • Report design skills (drill-through, bookmarks, UX)
